3,000 more fans than usual- Ovechkin promotes NHL

Pic of the Day
Alex Ovechkin during the game vs. the Columbus Blue Jackets on November 29, 2008.

So, I went to the Columbus game last night and let me tell you, it was pretty sad. Honestly though, I guess I was just glad to see the Capitals, considering it was my first Capitals game this season. It totally sucks not living in near DC, and all of you are lucky you do.
But anyways, last night's game was pretty one sided. The Blue Jackets played pretty well (at least better than they usually do) and the Capitals could have done much better. I'm glad they will be able to get a couple days of rest before their next game on Tuesday at home versus the Panthers.
The good thing about the game last night, was the attendance. Usually at Jackets games, there are around 14,000 people at Nationwide arena. Not very good. However, last night there were 17,448 people who all came to watch Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals. That's great! Ovie is doing his job + more, playing amazing hockey AND promoting the NHL.
GO OVECHKIN!

Injuries x5

Is it injury month or something? 5 of the Caps, 2 of whom are key players in their lines, are not going to be playing in tonight's game versus the Atlanta Thrashers. Boyd Gordon, Alexander Semin, Mike Green, Sergei Fedorov and Captain Chris Clark, are all on the injured list. Luckily, all of those players besides Chris Clark, as far as I know, have just day-to-day injuries
and hopefully at least a few of them, like Semin and Green, will be able to play in Saturday's game in Columbus (which I'm going to cause I live in there! :D).
As a result of these physical problems, the Capitals management have called up defensemen Sami Lepisto and Karl Alzner, and forwards Chris Bourque and Graham Mink (all pictured below) from the AHL team affiliated with the Caps, the Hershey Bears.
Lepisto made his Washington Capitals NHL debut last season, Bourque has played 5 games for the Caps in 2 seasons, Mink has played 5 games as well, but in 3 seasons, and this will be Alzner's first time playing in the NHL.

Let's hope they will be able to help us get a win and the Caps will get better soon!

Mike Green seems to always have something to...say?

Pic(s) of the Day

This is really random, I know, but doesn't Mike Green's mouth seem to be open in almost every picture of him? :D

Well, maybe he gets colds often or something. I know that was totally out of the blue, but it's just something I happened to notice. Weird, huh?

GO CAPITALS! BEAT SAN JOSE!

Ovechkin vs. Crosby? Not anymore.

Video of the Day

Malkin's hit on Alex Ovechkin on January 21, 2008. Boo!

I chose this video as video of the day because it reflects an article in this weeks "Hockey News".

Basically the article talks about Ovie and Evgeni Malkin's rivalry this year and how it effects each other's game. I did not like this article! The author seemed to be mostly on Malkin's "side" because he kept talking about why Ovie wants to hit Malkin every time they play each other. He doesn't state anything bad about Evgeni, while he makes Alex Ovechkin seem like a player who just wants to get revenge when these two players are on the ice. Both Alex and Evgeni have admitted they are not friends anymore and that there is tension between them. Here is what Evgeni said: "Ovechkin is a great player. Every time he hits me, I don't know why. It's a hockey game. Ovechkin is a good strong guy, a physical guy. I'm OK."

Forget Ovechkin vs. Crosby. Looks like Ovie has a new foe to deal with.

P.S. Want to know what Sidney Crosby thought about Alexander Semin's famous comments? "I'd be better off keeping my opinions to myself, I think. He can say what he wants." -Sidney Crosby. Wow look who is trying to seem like the "bigger man" now? Cool, Sidney, cool.

Ovechkin is feeling like himself

Pic of the Day

I thought I should post about this article from NHL.com today.

As we all know, Ovie had 9 games without scoring a goal in the beginning of this season. And who can blame the guy? His 83 year old grandfather was dying and he needed to be with him. That probably bothered him a lot. He was getting hits, shots and times to score goals, he just never produced any. And it didn't help that his fellow teammate and friend off the ice, Alexander Semin, was leading the team and, at times, the league, in goals and points. That probably put much more pressure on him too.

Now, however, he says he feels like his regualr self again. In the games against Tampa Bay and Carolina he produced 2 goals, 3 assists and 5 hits, helping to get the victories of those games. Here is what he had to say about his improvement thus far:
"Right now I feel great," Ovechkin said. "I feel free right now, and I'm enjoying my time again. I just think about the game and I think about the team, and I think about what I have to do better."

Keep it up Ovie!

Capitals on Rollercoaster

Pic of the Day

I know most of you have probably seen this picture before, but since it's so great, I decided to start out with it as the first "Pic of the Day"!

Oh and incase you were wondering, the girl in the third row next to Jose Theodore is Ted Leonsis' daughter.

Welcome to Capitals Addiction!

Hey fellow Capitals fans! :)

I just started this blog called "CAPITALS ADDICTION" where I will be blogging anything and everything about the Washington Capitals hockey team! I will try to update regularly with random information about the Caps.

I will also have a "Pic of the Day" every day I update and a link to a "Video of the day". (I apologize if you all have seen either of them already. I'll try my best to find rare ones!)
Please enjoy this blog and feel free to comment ideas or whatever!

Thanks and GO CAPS! :)
